After being educated at Diocesan College, Bishops,
Richard joined Alistair Simpson Insurance Brokers
(Pty) in December 1996 as an Assistant Underwriter
in the Commercial Underwriting Department. He then
moved to the Claims Department where he handled third
party motor recoveries, motor and domestic claims.
In September 1998 Richard went overseas to play rugby
for Saracens and the Welsh club, Pontypridd. Once
all his contractual obligations were met he decided
to return to Cape Town.

At the same time Alistair Simpson Insurance Brokers
(Pty) Ltd was going through a management buyout and
once this was concluded Alistair and Mandy invited
Richard to join them as a Commercial Underwriter for
Murray Clan Insurance Brokers (Pty) Ltd. Today Richard heads up the Company as our Managing
Director. |

Alistair started in the Insurance Industry in January
1970 with the Commercial Union for a period of 18
months before accepting the position of Fire and Accident
Underwriter for UNISWA Insurance Company in their
Cape Town office. By 1972 he had been promoted to
Assistant Branch Manager of their East London office
and subsequently in 1974 was promoted as Senior Inspector
for the Durban office.

He returned to Cape Town and remained with UNISWA
for a short while before breaking out to go insurance
broking. In April 1979 he formed his own insurance
broking company, which developed into the largest
independent insurance broking operation in Cape Town
with a staff of some 30 people and a client base in
excess of 6 000 corporate and domestic clients. In
March 2001 Alistair concluded a management buy-out
with his fellow Directors and left Alistair Simpson
Insurance Brokers (Pty) Ltd. Currently Alistair heads up our Sales Department.
